Urban League offers resources to boost women and minority businesses entrepreneurs

With the stroke of a pen in late October, the Central Florida Urban League, the White House and the U.S. Small Business Administration joined forces to help boost the prospects of women and minority businesses entrepreneurs.

While the short-term goal is to ensure the growth and success of local businesses, looking into the future, the Central Florida Urban League sees this partnership as a fundamental way to tackle generational poverty.

“Generational poverty will not be eradicated overnight. We are embarking on a number of innovative approaches to help lift up our community as a whole,” said Glenton Gilzean, Jr., president and CEO of the Central Florida Urban League. “These efforts begin with strategic partnerships which will open the door for private enterprise to flourish and invest in our community.”

The strategic alliance that was formalized between the CFUL and SBA not only was a first for the region, but under the leadership of Glenton Gilzean, Jr., Central Florida affiliate became the first Urban League in the country to sign such a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
