Thursday, August 10, 2017

Aug. 10, 2017 - Teachers and administration kicked off the new school year with a big pep rally on Thursday at Gibbs High School. The school is celebrating its 90th birthday as the high school marching band, cheerleaders and teachers greeted students on their first day of class of 2017.
“Gibbs High School opened its doors for the first time in 1927,” said the school’s principal Reuben C. Hepburn. “It was hailed as the “Miracle on 34th Street,” as (the school) provided education for African-Americans during the time of segregation. When African-Americans wanted to advance through education, Gibbs High School was there.” Read more at tampabay.com.
