The unveiling of a commemorative plaque will follow a brief ceremony with honored guest, Leon Jackson - the last surviving member of the Courageous 12.
In the 1960s, African American officers with the City of St. Petersburg Police Department were not allowed to work in white neighborhoods, could only arrest African American citizens, and were not eligible for promotion. Twelve courageous black St. Petersburg Police Officers changed that.
Mayor Rick Kriseman, St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway, and the men and women of the St. Petersburg Police Department proudly recognize these men for leading the way for all minorities to serve our community in every rank of law enforcement.
